Life as I know it
So Hi again! It's Saturday night... well actually Sunday morning. I'm chillin at my apartment after a crazy week. Well after last weekend, I came back to NOLA Saturday night. Went to work saturday and sunday night, then monday woke up and decided I was going to use a sick day...so I hung around a bit and relaxed then I got a phone call from Heather with all the funeral arrangement details. So then I had to decided what I wanted to do about going to the funeral, I really wanted to go but plane tickets were freakin outrageous and I knew my parents would probably pitch a huge fit if I told them I wanted to drive to Dallas (7+ hours) by myself. So I had made up my mind later that night that I would most likely go so I headed over to barnes and noble and bought myself a book on CD and some books on San Francisco for my trip in a couple weeks. So I then went home read the whole book about San Fran and went to bed...oh FYI before I went to bed I prayed to help make the right decision about driving to Dallas and to help my parents understand. So I woke up early got dressed packed my bags and called my parents, told me dad that I was heading to Dallas for the funeral and he was really cool about it...So off I went! So I got to Dallas about 6pm ...checked into my high class hotel...ok so maybe it wasn't so high class but it's what Mrs. Burson recommended! I spoke to Marshall and made plans to meet up with him and David for dinner. So we did that went to Don Pablos for dinner then on my way back I met up with Heather so we could go to a Wal-Mart that wasn't in a dry county to buy a bottle of wine...so we did. We went back to the SUPER 8 and stayed up until 5am drank the bottle of wine (um the 1.5L bottle) and talked. Then about 5am is when the Fritt's arrived so Heather headed back to her house, and I went to sleep. Alicia and Kirk stayed with me.
The next morning we slept in until it was time to get ready for the funeral. The funeral was nice and everything went really well. It was actually a really nice, uplifting service. This was actually my first funeral service for someone in our church I've always been to catholic funerals. Anyways, we all stayed at the the memorial service for a long time talking. Then we all went to the Olive Garden for dinner, the Fritts Clan, Me, Heather and her family, the Crocketts, the Masons, and the local elder from Dallas. It was nice, then after that everyone left. The Fritts headed back to Nashville. I went back to heather's house with her and Daral. I hung out there with them until about midnight, when I said my good byes left to go back to my hotel.
So I leave, it's only like a 15 minute drive, get onto the interstate and I'm cruising along going about 75 (well it was actually 78 apparently) when I see these blue, red and white lights behind me..."OH Shit!" that's the thought that I had... Actually I do believe I said it out loud to myself. So I pull over. The little texas state trooper gets out and does the usual license/insurance crap, then ask where I was coming from, going? etc... and tells me I was going 78mph.. I said OK...then he ask me if I knew what the speed limit was...I then reply 70! And he then informs me that its 65mph...Oh I say! (come one...since when is the speed limit on an interstate 65????...anyways... long story short.. I just got a warning! HA!!! YEA!!!!
So back to the hotel I go and sleep!!
So the next morning, Thursday, I head back to Baton Rouge, figure I'll hang out with the parents until the weekend when I have to go back to work.
When I get back in town around 5, I stop by my parents shop and they have the news on and little did I know there is a hurricane hitting southern florida and it's expected to move back into the gulf...to most likely, they say, hit northern florida! WOw I say...guess I should've turned on the news while I was out of town! So whatever... I go back to my parents house and chill! Well Friday I get up leisurely and decide I need to go spend money, So I spent the afternoon at the mall bought a couple new dresses for the feast, and a new bathing suit, and make-up and other random crap! And i got a manicure and pedicure..which was great!! Then I met my parents for dinner at On the Border...which was pretty good. Check the news and it looks like this hurricane may head more towards Louisiana but no telling at that point. so I play on the computer then go to bed around midnight or so. I then get woken up around 1 by a phone call from Jen...yeah she had said she'd call me back later! Well that was certainly an interesting phone call I do have to say... I won't say more on here my dear reader. So Saturday morning my mom wakes me up with Breakfast in bed...aww...I know! And tells me how the hurricane looks like it's going to hit NOLA...nice I think to myself...then I occurs to me that my phone rang at like 8am this morning and it was my friend April from work. So I figure I should call her back b/c who knows that they are doing at work with the hurricane etc.. So I talk to her and well they haven't made any official decision yet..so anyways, at noon the news still says the hurricane is headed for NOLA and it's going to be a bad one...the mayor and governor etc are all on the news telling people about voluntary and Mandatory evacuations...etc.. So I go to church, during church I got a phone call from my friend Kristen who also works at Childrens, so right after church I check her message then I figure I should probably check my messages at my house, and of course I have a ton...hmm.. should of done that earlier. Well there is a message from the charge nurse saying that since I"m scheduled to work tomorrow night (sunday) that I need to be on standby and pack a bag to bring with me when I come in. Nice...then i find out that at 4pm they started the contraflow, which means all roads lead out of the city and only like 2 will let you in.. they turn all of the interstate traffic one way out of new orleans. GREAT! So anyways, after having dinner with my mom I head on to New Orleans, quite an eery (sp?) feeling being alone on the road , with just a couple other cars going in your direction and lots of cars going the other way. So I made it back here around 8:30 then I try to go to the grocery store to get some stuff for work...if I'm going to have to camp out there! Well guess what? Wal-Mart has boarded up and got the hell outta dodge...the place was shut down...nice!! Thankfully Winn-Dixie was open so I went and got a few things. Then headed home! It's nice to finally be home..so I started packing my bag with scrubs and such! Now I'm just chillin! I was watching the weather channel and they are all freking out...this one hurricane guy thinks this may be "THE ONE" !! Ya know the infamous big storm that will dump the lake into the city...for those of you that don't know.. New orleans is below sea level and is surrounded by water...the river, gulf, marsh, and lake ponchatrain. Since we are below sea level...what is actually considered the shore-line is north of the lake! really reassuring!!!!
Well anyways.. guess I'll run for now and go watch some more weather channel!
Later...well that is if New Orleans still exist and I survive the storm camping out at Children's Hospital!
